Welcome back!
We have missed seeing each of your faces so much, even if it's been over the computer! It was quite a different spring break for both Ms. Mack and Ms. Terry as we imagine yours was also. Ms. Mack was going to go to San Diego and Ms. Terry was going to visit her friend and her friend's new baby in Wisconsin. Instead, we both stayed home, enjoyed time with our pups and did some reading, art and puzzles. ZOOM MEETS: Students will have the optional opportunity to do ZOOM “meets” with Ms. Mack to have authentic Chinese production time. If the links happen to change, we will contact you. Any assignments that we have posted are sometimes showing up and sometimes not. The district is aware. Pearson Realize is aware. There is a ticket in for this glitch to be fixed. Until then, ignore Pearson Realize assignments (and know they will not count against your student). This week's online learning opportunities include: ELA: This week, our story is titled "Tippy-Toe Chick Go!." The story is about a little chick who helps her family solve a problem. We are starting unit 5 which is all about what a difference a great idea can make. This story is an animal fantasy story. We will be working on recognizing the characters, the setting and the plot of the story. This week, our phonics focus is /ow/ and the final syllable –le in words. CHINESE: We are continuing unit 10 this week and will be reading, writing, and using the following characters in oral language practice: 几 how many, 年 year, 星期 week. We will continue to review the following characters from previous units: 来 come, 去 go, 走 walk, 田 field, 今today, 昨 yesterday, 明 tomorrow, 是 is (to be), 日 sun/day, 月 moon/month, 天 sky, 生 life/to be born, 男 boy, 女 girl, 土 dirt, 雨 rain, 马 horse, 牛 cow, 鸟 bird, 羊 sheep, 虫 insect. MATH: In unit 11 we will practice using models and strategies to subtract tens.

We want to take a moment to thank each of you for your patience and appreciation this week as we start to adjust to our online learning formats. It has been a steep learning curve for us as teachers and we know it has been challenging for many students and families as well. THANK YOU for persevering and for remaining optimistic. All of us will be technology experts by the end of this experience!
Starting Monday April 13th, we will be sending notifications and updates primarily through Canvas, and not through Dojo. In order to keep you all in the loop, we are asking for at least one parent from each family to follow the steps below to become an observer of your student on Canvas. Going through these steps will help you stay connected to your student's academic activity on Canvas, and will also allow you to receive important announcements from Ms. Mack and Ms. Terry. After you connect to your student on Canvas, please make sure that you have notifications turned on in your Canvas settings! Turning on your notifications will greatly ease communication between teachers and parents. Thank you for supporting your student in their online learning endeavors and for being so supportive of us as teachers. Please continue to adapt all online learning materials to best meet the needs of your student and your family during this difficult transition. We are so appreciative of each one of you!
