The summer countdown continues: there are only 8 days of school left! The last few weeks of school are packed with activities so please refer to the blog and Mrs. Winfree’s Ridgecrest Roar to stay on top of all our upcoming events.
Combined Class Party on the Last Day of School! On the last day of school, the cafeteria is closed so there will be no lunches provided at school. Since school gets out at 12:40 PM on June 6th, the students will be very hungry and in need of some snacks. If you are interested in sending a snack (veggies, juice boxes, fruit, fruit snacks, chips, paper goods, etc.) for the class with your student, please email us or send us a Dojo message to let us know what you will be sending! We are very appreciative of any snacks that you are able to send with your student. Also, we want to make sure that we celebrate all birthdays this year. If we have not had the opportunity to celebrate your student’s birthday, please let us know! It is very important to us that we recognize and celebrate each child’s birthday! The last day of school would be a perfect time to celebrate birthdays! LUNCH CHOICES Monday: No school! Memorial Day! We will be addressing a new question of the week. The question is “What can happen when someone has a new idea?" Our story of the week is "The Stone Garden." We will be learning and practicing prepositions and prepositional phrases. This is our last story in reading street. Spelling Words: unhappy, refill, untie, undo, repay, unkind, undress, retell, reopen, rewind, different **, and carry** Chinese: Students are spending the remaining days of school reinforcing all the characters we have learned so far in first grade, including the three units we have previewed for second grade. The final homework packet was sent home last week, but students bring home self-starter worksheets almost daily with reading passages that they can practice with at home! Math: We have finished up topic 14, reasoning with shapes and their attributes. Students have now moved on to topic 15: equal shares of circles and rectangles. We will also be learning about coins and their value for the remaining days of school. Science and Social Studies: Students are continuing to learn about sports and exercise this week, and will also learn about parts of the body and eating healthy, animals in spring time, and reviewing other topics we have learned this year!
