WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: Our question of the week is "Who Helps Animals?" Our story is titled "Pig in a Wig" It is an animal fantasy story. We will be talking about the plot of the story as well as being able to summarize what happened in the story. We will be working on our short /i/ sound as well the consonant x/ks/. This week, the spelling words will be pretty simple for these bright students, again, so we will be practicing other words that follow the same pattern. A spelling list will be coming home with your child on Monday! We will also be working on writing complete sentences and being able to identify the subject of the sentence. We are still working on remembering our capital letters at the beginning and our punctuation at the end. We are learning more stations for our skill based instruction. This week, we will continue to be working on buddy reading and adding additional stations to the routine! We have been really successful with keeping our volume level at the appropriate volume but we are still working on staying focused with the station task at hand and completing it the whole task! CHINESE: This week, students are reviewing the topics covered in the first four weeks of school: family, friends, animals, clothing, and colors. Students will continue to focus on talking about animals they like and do not like, as well as what animals need and where they live. Most exciting of all: students will begin to learn characters this week! The first unit will cover the Chinese characters for numbers 1-10. Ask your students to share what they are learning with you! We hope your students will feel confident and optimistic as they start to develop their writing skills. MATH: We are starting topic 3 in math which is addition to 20. The students are making great strides in counting to 20 in Chinese as well as recognizing math vocabulary in Chinese. HOMEWORK: Homework is coming home on Monday. Please feel free to enrich the homework if you would like. If it is too difficult, be adapt as needed. If you would like homework, please contact Ms. Mack. Homework is usually sent home on Monday and can be returned on Friday.
