IMPORTANT INFORMATION Please sign up for Class Dojo! We sent a information sheet home of Friday with your students individualized "login." If you need the login information, please email Ms. Terry or Ms. Mack! :) Bring your planner and folder daily to school! School starts at 8:40 and gets out at 3:20. We will always enter and leave the building at the first grade doors! No School on Monday, September 4th! It’s Labor Day! Enjoy your long weekend! Our schools’ 50th birthday party is on September 8th from 5:30-7:30! It should be a wonderful time! Please come! We’d love to see each one of you there! Our first book order has gone home. We plan to submit the order on September 8th! We are only doing online ordering this year! If you need our class code, please email Ms. Terry for it! LUNCH CHOICES Monday: Walking Taco, Hamburger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich Tuesday: Pork Chop Dinner, Mini Corn Dogs and Chef Salad Wednesday: Teriyaki Chicken,, Nachos or Wow Butter and Jelly Sandwich Thursday: Crunchy Fish Filet, Chicken Nuggets and Taco Salad Friday: Cheese (or Pepperoni) Pizza Rippers, Bean Burrito or Turkey Sandwich WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: We are reading two stories titled “Snap!” and “Tip and Tam. We are going over many letters and their sounds. We are also working on blending words. We are learning about how a name of a place is a noun. We are learning about the setting of a story. CHINESE: This week are reviewing the vocabulary for “big” and “little”, and starting to practice “on top of” and “underneath.” Students are also practicing greetings (Hello, goodbye), responses to the question “How are you?” (Good, very good, not good). We will also start learning vocabulary for families this week. Please send a family picture or a copy of a family photograph with your child to school on Wednesday August 30th. Students will practice talking about their families using a picture to help them remember the vocabulary. We will hang the pictures up in our room for a few weeks. MATH: Students have been practicing counting from 1-10 in Chinese, and writing numbers when the teacher says the name of the number in Chinese. We will begin working on basic addition problems this week. HOMEWORK: Reading 10 minutes a night! We will start “homework” on September 11th!

Welcome to our very first blog post! We are so excited for this school year! We loved meeting each of you at back to school night!

LUNCH CHOICES Wednesday: Chicken Drumstick, Nachos or Tuna Sandwich Thursday: Orange Chicken, Chicken Nuggets and Taco Salad Friday: Cheese (or Pepperoni) Pizza Rippers, Bean Burrito or Turkey Sandwich Monday: Walking Taco, Hamburger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: For the first 3 days of school, we will be learning the procedures, rules and responsibilities of what it looks and feels like to be a first grader. We will also be reviewing our short vowels. We will start reading. We will also start working on our writing skills! We have a writing notebook in our desk and our goal is to fill it up this year! For the first 2 in a half weeks, we are doing review from what the students learned in Kindergarten to help reinforce and review what they have learned so when we get to our first unit, we are able to keep moving forward and start learning our first grade standards! CHINESE: Our first week in Chinese will be so much fun! The students will learn so much this year! They will learn a lot through repeated practice, oral language activities and even modeling. We will be using sign language in both classes to help with identifying basic needs like drink, bathroom, me too, I agree, line up, who, what, when, where, why, and how. MATH: In math, the students will be reviewing skills they learned in kindergarten. We want to make sure they have all the foundational skills to build up in math! In English with Ms. Terry; we will review what the students have learned in Chinese with Ms. Mack. HOMEWORK: Reading 10 minutes a night! We will start “homework” on September 11th!
