Welcome to First Grade DLI! We are so excited to get to know your student this year! It is truly such a fun experience and you will see your student grow abundantly this coming year!
Here is the link to our parent survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6DriVTa1Y6OI5I9W3_2tBjv6V-ME2GqTVE1yMOyS37qz0nQ/viewform Thank you to those who have already done this! :) IMPORTANT INFORMATION Bring your folder daily to school! School starts at 8:40 and gets out at 3:20. We will always enter and leave the building at the first grade doors! No School on September 3rd. It's Labor Day! Our first book order has gone home. We plan to submit the order on September 7th! We are only doing online ordering this year. If you need our class code, please email Ms. Terry for it! We will be starting ClassDojo very soon! Be on the look out for a note coming about it coming home. This first month of school can be very tiring for the kiddos. Many are transitioning from half day kindergarten to full day school, in addition to transitioning from summer break back to the routine of school. Please help the students in getting enough sleep to ease this transition. MANDARIN MATRIX: All those who attended back-to-school night yesterday got the run-down on Mandarin Matrix, but here is the information again just in case you missed it! Mandarin Matrix is the literacy program for Chinese immersion schools across the state of Utah. Students have access to hard copies of the stories we will study in class, but there is also an option to purchase an online account for your student. The online Mandarin Matrix component gives students access to the stories we are reading in class currently, as well as stories we have previously studied. Students can have stories read aloud to them, practice writing characters, and play games associated with the stories to practice listening and reading comprehension. This is a great resource to reinforce what students are practicing at school. Any families interested in purchasing an account may do so until the September 30th deadline. Accounts are $38 for a full calendar year. See the attached letter in the email for more information about registration! HOMEWORK: Reading 10 minutes a night! We will start “homework” on September 10th! Please contact Ms. Mack to opt in to the weekly Chinese and math practice packets: [email protected] LUNCH CHOICES Wednesday: Crispy Chicken Drumstick, Nachos or Tuna Sandwich Thursday: Orange Chicken, Chicken Nuggets and Taco Salad Friday: Cheese (or Pepperoni) Pizza Rippers, Bean Burrito or Turkey Sandwich Monday: Walking Taco, Hamburger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich Tuesday: Pork Chop Dinner, Mini Corn Dogs and Chef Salad Wednesday: Teriyaki Chicken, Nachos or Wow Butter and Jelly Sandwich Thursday: Crunchy Fish Filet, Chicken Nuggets and Taco Salad Friday: Cheese (or Pepperoni) Pizza, Bean Burrito or Turkey Sandwich WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: We are reading two stories titled “Sam" and "Snap." The text based comprehension skills we will be working on are recognizing the characters and the setting. We will be reviewing nouns in sentences as well as the short /a/ sound. We will working on recognizing a, green, I, see, like, one, the, and we. CHINESE: This week we will begin practicing vocabulary for “big” and “little”, greetings (hello, goodbye), and responses to the question “How are you?” (good, very good, not good). Students will also begin learning basic classroom phrases tied to our routines (line up, sit down, stand up, eyes on the teacher, etc.). MATH: Students begin learning the names of numbers 1-10 in Chinese, and writing numbers (not the Chinese characters--yet!) when the teacher says the name of the number in Chinese. Students will also begin familiarizing themselves with vocabulary for daily calendar time.
