Welcome to a "regular" schedule week! We have brainboosters on Wednesday and Thursday!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION School starts at 8:40 and gets out at 3:20. We will always enter and leave the building at the first grade doors! Bring your folder to school daily! Start saving pop can tabs and sending them in! We are doing a school-wide contest. Whichever grade has the most pop can tabs (in weight) will win a small prize! We have changed our attendance incentive! Each class is working on building their own Mister Potato head! As soon as they build it, they will earn a mystery motivator that they have chosen (crazy socks, extra recess, pajama day, etc). Please help your student be at school by 8:40 so each class can earn their mystery motivator! Here is Ms. Terry's Volunteer Calendar: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094ba9ac2ba7fd0-volunteer The dates go out until January in hopes of keeping it up to date! Thank you for all those who are volunteering in both classrooms! We really appreciate it! Every Friday is Tiger Pride Friday! We try to wear our tiger pride shirts. If you don’t have one, a blue or orange shirt works! :) We are very lucky to have 2 amazing room moms who are helping us to have a"Thanksgiving" filled afternoon the day before Thanksgiving Break! Mark your calendars for November 26th at 1:30! :) There will be a sign up to help with donations! LUNCH CHOICES Monday: Mini Pepperoni Calzones, Hamburger, or Grill Cheese Sandwich Tuesday: Breakfast Burritos, Mini Corn Dogs, or Chef Salad Wednesday: Crispy Chicken Drumstick, Nachos, or Tuna Sandwich Thursday: Orange Chicken, Chicken Nuggets, or Taco Salad Friday: Pizza Rippers, Bean and Cheese Burrito, or Turkey Sandwich Monday: Walking Taco, Hamburger, or Grill Cheese Sandwich Tuesday: Crunchy Fish Fillet, Mini Corn Dogs, or Chef Salad WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: This week, we are reading a story titled “Who Works Here?” It is an expository text. We will be using this text as well as other texts to talk and learn about author’s purpose. We will also be talking about who works to make our community a nice place. We will be talking about the community we live in, our school community and even our family community. Our phonics focus for the week is consonant digraphs wh, ch, tch, and ph. We will also be learning the i_e pattern. Our conventions focus is special titles. We have started writing more each day! We are going to be learning how to log on to Pearson Realize to take our weekly test online! CHINESE: Students are continuing unit 3 of Mandarin Matrix. We will review the stories "Amusement Park" and "Haircut." We will read a new story called "Sit Down." Students will practice key phrases including "Who wants to do this?", "I want to", "I don't want to", "where is/are?", etc. Students are reinforcing the following characters: "不 (no/not), 坐 (sit), 在 (at/in), 里 (inside)". MATH: We have finished unit 1 and are starting unit 5. Unit 5 is combining what students learned in units 3 and 4 and developing subtraction and addition strategies even further. This unit will continue to reinforce the relationship between addition and subtraction. Some have stated that math is too easy for their child. Please remember that the "skill" of doing the math problems may be easy but they are learning how to talk about each math problem in Chinese. They are talking about the steps they did to solve the problem, the solution and even different ways that some may have gotten the sum or difference. While basic math skills are fundamental, the students are diving in and applying each math skill they know, building upon it as well as increasing their Chinese vocabulary. Please help reinforce the importance of what we are doing each day! One way to help improve the connection to what they are doing at school to home is to continue to practice math fluency at home and ask your child to practice talking to you about math in Chinese! We are so proud of the hard work we are seeing from students in both English and Chinese classes. Students are working hard to speak Chinese only when they are in Ms. Mack's class. Please encourage them to do their best and to speak as much Chinese as they know! Keep up the awesome job, first graders!
