A spelling list will be coming home with your child on Monday! We have been doing 3 of the challenge words as well as one of the dictation sentences! Everyone is attempting to do them but they are not counting against the student's demonstration of mastering the phonics skill of the week. We will also be working on writing complete sentences and being able to identify the predicates of sentences. We are still working on remembering our capital letters at the beginning and our punctuation at the end. ***Turn in your September Reading Calendar!*** A new one is coming home on Monday for October! CHINESE: The students are still working on the first unit for Mandarin Matrix. They will continue to practice and learn the Chinese characters for numbers 1-10. Students will have some writing practice sent home as part of the weekly homework so that they can continue to develop their writing skills. Special instructions for parents will be sent home to help you guide your student in writing Chinese even if you have never studied the language! Students will continue to review topics introduced at the beginning of the school year (family, friends, animals, clothing, animals, and colors). MATH: Students have started unit 2 and which is just an extension of unit 1. We are learning strategies for addition and subtraction strategies when working with numbers from 1-20. We have learned about counting on from a number already. We will learn about doubles, doubles plus one and doubles plus 2. Please continue to practice math fluency at home and ask your child to practice talking to you about math in Chinese! One way is to have your child read the math equations in Chinese.
