IMPORTANT INFORMATION School starts at 8:40 and gets out at 3:20. We will always enter and leave the building at the first grade doors! On Fridays, we get out of school at 1:40! J Bring your planner and folder daily to school! EVERY FRIDAY IS TIGER PRIDE DAY! Wear your tiger pride (or Blue & Orange if you haven’t received your shirt yet)!!! Toys at school: Several students have been bringing toys to school which is causing a bit of a distraction. If students are playing with toys in class, the toys will be kept at the teacher's desk until the end of the day. We discourage students from bringing toys to school because items frequently get misplaced or lost. Please remind your students to keep toys at home! Please also remind your students that if they have phone watches that they are not allowed to be texting or calling on them during the day. Thank you. Volunteering: We are working on getting a volunteer schedule/calendar out! Thanks to those who have contacted us about coming in to help out. Remember that if you are volunteering at the school, you must fill out a volunteer application at: volunteer.canyonsdistrict.org Class Dojo: Remember to sign up for Class Dojo! If you don't have your child's code, please let us know. It's a quick and fun way to see how your student is doing and even get some pictures here and there! If you look at your child's student report, you may see points awarded for positive behaviors or deducted for undesirable behaviors. Fundraiser: Keep up the great work! This is our one and only fundraiser! Please do your best to share it with family, friends and neighbors (that you know)! If 90% of first grade participates, we will have an awesome dance party with treats! The goal is that each student does their best and “raises” $50. Our overall goal for the school is $30,000. If we reach $30,000, Mrs. Winfree and Mrs. Cardon will SLEEP on the school roof one night! Each day there are special “contests” going on, look at your packet for individual details! Friday (9/14) is the fun run. PLEASE send your student in tennis shoes and comfortable clothes! The fun run is a great time! Picture Day is on 9/20. Parent Teacher Conferences are also coming up! Mark your calendars! September 24th, September 26th and September 27th. There will be a note emailed home on Monday, September 10th for instructions on how to sign up for conferences. Please sign up as soon as you are able to. LUNCH CHOICES Monday: Pulled Pork Sandwich, Hamburger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich Tuesday: Orange Chicken, Mini Corn Dogs and Chef Salad Wednesday: Canyons Chicken Bowl, Nachos or Wow Butter and Jelly Sandwich Thursday: Mac & Cheese, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Taco Salad Friday: Cheese (or Pepperoni) Pizza, Bean Burrito or Turkey Sandwich WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: We are on our last week of review! We will be talking about what is around us at school and what can we see around our neighborhoods. We will be asking and answering questions about key details in text by reading a couple of stories. We will also be reviewing nouns, verbs and adjectives! We have been learning how to use our chromebooks and we will be working on lexia! This is one way that we are able to challenge and expand our knowledge! CHINESE: We have been working on colors all week and will continue to review them as we move on to animals and articles of clothing. If students have pictures of family pets or want to print out a picture of their favorite animal to bring to school on Wednesday September 12th, we will use them for an in-class activity. Your students are getting so good at introducing family members! We love having the family pictures up in our classroom. If you still have not sent a picture in, please do so ASAP. MATH: For math homework this week, students will review addition strategies (adding to, putting together, and solving for unknown addends). Students will continue to work on solving addition problems where both addends are unknown, as well as exploring strategies for subtraction problems (take from and compare situations). We are working to create additional challenges for students who are already very comfortable with basic addition and subtraction using numbers 1-10, but are emphasizing the development of students' abilities to talk about math in Chinese. Homework: Today, homework is coming home. Please feel free to enrich the homework if you would like. If it is too difficult, be adapt as needed. If you would like homework, please contact Ms. Mack. Homework is usually sent home on Monday and can be returned on Friday. Here’s to an awesome week!
