Our story is titled "A Fox and A Kit." It is an animal literary nonfiction story. We will be talking about the main idea and important ideas of the story. We will be working on our inflected endings –s and –ing. A spelling list will be coming home with your child on Monday. We have been doing 3 of the challenge words as well as one of the dictation sentences. Everyone is attempting to do them but they are not counting against the student's demonstration of mastering the phonics skill of the week. We will also be working on writing personal narratives. We are still working on remembering our capital letters at the beginning and our punctuation at the end. We are learning more stations for our skill based instruction. ***Turn in your September Reading Calendar!*** A new one is coming home on Tuesday for October! I will also be sending home monthly practice activities for those who requested the advanced quantity discrimination, missing number fluency, as well as nonsense word fluency practice pages. If you would like them, please let me know! CHINESE: The students are still working on the first unit for Mandarin Matrix. They will continue to practice and learn the Chinese characters for numbers 1-10. Students will have some writing practice sent home as part of the weekly homework so that they can continue to develop their writing skills. Special instructions for parents will be sent home to help you guide your student in writing Chinese even if you have never studied the language! Students will continue to review topics introduced at the beginning of the school year (family, friends, animals, clothing, animals, and colors). MATH: Students have been working hard on unit 3, practicing multiple strategies with addition facts to 20. We have learned about counting on from a number, doubles, doubles plus one and doubles plus 2. This week we will begin unit 4, using multiple strategies to subtract with facts to 20. Please continue to practice math fluency at home and ask your child to practice talking to you about math in Chinese! One way is to have your child read the math equations in Chinese. It’s going to be a great first week of October!
