Welcome back after a long weekend!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION School starts at 8:40 and gets out at 3:20. We will always enter and leave the building at the first grade doors! No School on Monday, September 4th! It’s Labor Day! Enjoy your long weekend! Calling all Dad's, Grandpa's, Uncles!!! On Thursday, September 7th, we are having "Watch Dog Dads and Donuts" at 8:00 AM! You don't want to miss it! On Friday, we are doing our district testing! Please make sure all students have a restful sleep! This is nothing to worry about! This will continue to help guide our instruction to the common core standards! Our schools’ 50th birthday party is on September 8th from 5:30-7:30! It should be a wonderful time! Please come! We’d love to see each one of you there! We plan to submit the order on September 8th! We are only doing online ordering this year! If you need our class code, please email Ms. Terry for it! Bring your planner and folder daily to school! Remember to sign up for Class Dojo! If you don't have your child's code, please let us know! It's a quick and fun way to see how your student is doing and even get some pictures here and there! The first week and a half of school we have emphasized positive behavior reinforcement primarily through the Class Dojo app. This week we will be improving undesirable behaviors through the Class Dojo app. If you look at your child's student report, you may see points awarded for positive behaviors or deducted for undesirable behaviors. We are working on getting a volunteer schedule/calendar out! Thank you for your patience and willingness to help in the classroom! LUNCH CHOICES Monday: No School, LABOR DAY! Tuesday: Lasagna, Mini Corn Dogs and Chef Salad Wednesday: French Toast Sticks, Nachos or Wow Butter and Jelly Sandwich Thursday: Egg roll and fried rice, Chicken Nuggets and Taco Salad Friday: Cheese (or Pepperoni) Pizza Rippers, Bean Burrito or Turkey Sandwich Monday: BBQ Rib Sandwich, Hamburger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ELA: We will be plugging along in our review unit. We will continue to talk about realistic fiction. Our two questions will be "What can we do with our neighborhood friends?" and "What is around us at school?" We will be talking about short /o/ and short /e/. Our high frequency words that we will work on having committed to memory are: are, have, that, they, two, he, is, three, to, and with. We will be writing in our journals A LOT this week. We recognize that many students know pieces or even all of the review but due to the challenge of being in a Chinese speaking classroom, we are easing the cognitive load in the English side of the classroom for the rest of this week. Thank you for your support in this matter! :) CHINESE: This week students will learn vocabulary with colors, clothing/personal items, and friends. We will review vocabulary and sentence patterns from the previous week, emphasizing family members and practicing the sentence frames: "This is my...(mom, sister, brother, etc)." and "My family has (number) people." MATH: Students will work with various methods of addition and subtraction with numbers from 1-10. Students have done an amazing job remembering their numbers in Chinese and using them in our math practice problems last week. HOMEWORK: Reading 10 minutes a night. We will officially start “homework” on September 11th!
